Sweet and Spicy Toasted Pepita Seeds

If you're like me and enjoy mixing and matching spices to create a mouth watering rub, then why not try your hand at roasting seeds. Not only will you have a fun, healthy snack but trying out spice blends on seeds is cheaper, less time consuming, and allows more trials than spicing up a couple of steaks. I recommend using the recipe below as a jumping off point towards any spice mix you can imagine. You'll see that I had the same reaction when I thought up the bacon powder pepita seeds while I was writing this post. So heat up those ovens, break out the mortar and pestle, and get mixing!

Servings: 4

Level: Easy 

Prep Time: 15 minutes


Curry powder


Granulated sugar

Garlic powder

Cayenne pepper


Pepita seeds

1 t.

1.5 t.

1 t.

1 t.

1/4 t.

1 T.

1 c.

Combine the curry powder, salt, granulated sugar, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

Heat the honey in a microwave until it runs like water. Pour over the pepita seeds and toss to coat them. Add the spice mix and toss while the honey is still warm.

Transfer to a sheet pan and roast at 350 Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes. When fully roasted, transfer back to the spicy mix and toss again. 



To Serve:

Serve in a bowl for munching!


Cooking note:

Tossing the pepitas seeds in seasoning after roasting adds more flavor!
