Sweet and Spicy Toasted Pepita Seeds

If you're like me and enjoy mixing and matching spices to create a mouth watering rub, then why not try your hand at roasting seeds. Not only will you have a fun, healthy snack but trying out spice blends on seeds is cheaper, less time consuming, and allows more trials than spicing up a couple of steaks. I recommend using the recipe below as a jumping off point towards any spice mix you can imagine. You'll see that I had the same reaction when I thought up the bacon powder pepita seeds while I was writing this post. So heat up those ovens, break out the mortar and pestle, and get mixing!

Sweet and Spicy Toasted Pepita Seeds

“A little sweet, a tad spicy, and a whole lot of crunchy!”

 

Prep Time: 5 minutes                             Total Time: 15 minutes                                       Servings: 4

  

 

 

Ingredients:  

            ​

  • 1 teaspoon curry powder

  • 1-1/2 teaspoon salt 

  • 1 teaspoons granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder 

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 cup pepita seeds


Bonus Recipe:

 

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 1 cup pepita seeds

  • 3 tablespoon powdered bacon 

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika 

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt 

 

Directions:

 

1.  Combine the curry powder, salt, granulated sugar, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

 

2. Heat the honey in a microwave until it runs like water. Pour over the pepita seeds and toss to coat them. Add the spice mix and toss while the honey is still warm.

 

3. Transfer to a sheet pan and roast at 350 Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes. When fully roasted, transfer back to the spicy mix and toss again.
